Eco adventures can be just as much fun in winter as in summer. Some people believe that this is the best time of the year to explore the countryside, get a different perspective and see plants and wildlife in their winter environment.

Winter Eco Tours

Winter Eco Tours are certainly a great way to spend a weekend or a short vacation, especially if you live in Ontario, Canada.

Snow Shoe Eco Tour, an Unforgettable Eco Adventure

The Snow Shoe Eco Tour is about a three hours (three to four km) long trek (snowshoes provided or bring your own) and participants explore the woodland and wetland with a guide wearing snowshoes. The Snow Shoe Eco Tour is an unforgettable eco adventure that introduces guests to plants, birds and animals. Included is a stop at a warm fire for hot chocolate and hot dogs. Tours start in January 2008, and continue through March every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Cross Country Skiing at Wye Marsh

As word of mouth spreads, Wye Marsh Cross Country Ski Trails are rapidly gaining in popularity because of the pristine wilderness and the beautifully diverse terrain, which meanders through picturesque areas of hardwood forests and cedar groves. '

The trails are now open with groomed and track-set conditions. They also have snowshoeing on 10 KM of scenic hiking trails and 25 km of cross country ski trails (groomed and track-set) for all skill levels throughout the winter months.

Ski by the Full Moon

Experience nature in a very magical way at Wye Marsh. One of the Winter Eco Tours that is very highly rated by all who have experienced it, is the late night ski on every full moon. Skiers can enjoy the peacefulness of a moonlight night on the groomed trails watching the stars and admiring the marsh. According to their website, WyeMarsh.com, participants can choose to join a naturalist for a guided ski or venture out on their own.

My family has been to Wye Marsh on the snowshoeing eco tour. The guide did a great job explaining about the geese migration, Wye Marsh area and showing us some basic and lesser known wilderness survival skills. Nice day and great area.

Would highly recommend. Kristin Larsen- Gone Outside
